Romans: The Power of the Gospel Message 115 of 150
Are You Saved?
Pastor Anthony King· June 29, 2025
Romans 10:9-13
This sermon on Romans 10:9-13 asks whether you are truly saved, and calls you to examine the foundation of your salvation. It warns against false assurance built on works, heritage or emotion: genuine salvation is marked by heartfelt belief in Christ, open confession, repentance, and a changed life that bears spiritual fruit.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Romans 10:9
The series
Verse by verse through Paul’s letter to the church at Rome: the Gospel of God’s righteousness, from our ruin in sin to life lived as a living sacrifice.
You are not saved if you’re trusting in your baptism instead of Jesus.
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.1 John 1:7
You are not saved if you’re trusting in a religious experience instead of a risen Savior.
Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:Philippians 3:8-9
You are not saved if you’re trusting in your good works, church attendance, or religious heritage.
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.Isaiah 64:6
You are not saved if your faith has never been confessed.
For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.Luke 9:26
You are not saved if your heart has never been made righteous.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.Romans 10:10
You are not saved if you’ve never surrendered to Jesus as Lord.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.Romans 10:9
You are not saved if you’ve confessed Jesus with your mouth, but your heart has never believed.
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.Matthew 7:21
You are not saved if you’re relying on a prayer you don’t remember and a decision you never lived out.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.Ephesians 2:8-9
You are not saved if you love your sin more than the Savior.
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.1 John 3:9-10
You are not saved if your life shows no fruit of repentance.
Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.Matthew 7:19-20
You are not saved if there’s never a hunger for God’s Word or a desire to be with His people.
As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:1 Peter 2:2
You are not saved if you believe in Jesus historically, but not personally.
Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.James 2:19
You are not saved just because someone told you so.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?2 Corinthians 13:5
If you have believed with your heart that Jesus is Lord, turned from your sin and confessed with your mouth, you are saved.
If you are unsure of your salvation, settle it once and for all.
We are not saved by living righteous, but righteous living is an expectation of all of those who belong to God.
9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:9-13
